Leigh Carroll, 41, businessman, RHS Class of 1979
Leigh Gerard Carroll of 5 Jotham Road, New Milford, who grew up in Ridgefield and operated a business here, died on Sunday, Sept. 1, at the New Milford Hospital. He was 41 years old and husband of Amy Gaige Carroll.
Mr. Carroll was born in Stamford on Nov. 22, 1960, a son of Charles F. and Noreen Anderson Carroll of Ridgefield. He attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and graduated from Ridgefield High School in 1979. He moved to New Milford six years ago.
Mr. Carroll co-owned and operated Russell’s Carpet Warehouse of Ridgefield. He started working there when he was 15 years old and became a partner in the business about 10 years ago.
He was active in the local sports programs and enjoyed archery, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the New England Archers and of St. Mary’s Church. He was also active in the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Carroll was known as a generous man. “He would do anything for anybody,” said his wife, Amy. “Whenever anyone stopped by the store looking for help for a good cause, he was always ready to make a donation.”
“He was very much a family man,” she added.
Besides his wife of 17 years and his parents, Mr. Carroll is survived by his three children: Justin Carroll, Ryan Carroll and Alyssa Carroll, all of New Milford; four brothers: Gary Carroll and Kevin Carroll, both of Ridgefield; Charles Carroll Jr. and his wife Kristi of Tampa, Fla. and Paul Carroll of New Milford; two sisters: his twin, Lisa Silvi and her husband Marco of Italy and Kimberly Carroll of Ridgefield; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Sally and Alan Gaige of Charlottesville, Va.; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A brother, Michael J. Carroll, died in 1985.
The Rev. Paul Murphy, parochial vicar, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
