Roy Farra, 69, pilot and businessman

Roy A. Farra, a retired airline pilot who had operated Village Printers here, died on Sunday, Nov. 4, at his home. He was 69 years old and the husband of Frances Abburzzino Farra.
The Farras had lived on Sprucewood Lane for 40 years before moving to 31 Cross Street, Danbury, earlier this year.
Mr. Farra was born in Henderson, Ky., on Aug. 9, 1932, a son of the late Verne and Ruby Woodside Farra. He attended Kentucky schools and served with the Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Tarawa during the Korean War.
After the war, he obtained a commercial pilot’s license and flew for Eastern Airlines for 32 years, retiring in 1987. He also flew corporate jets.
In the late 1980s, the Farras owned and operated Village Printers, first on Bailey Avenue and later on Catoonah Street. They sold the business in the early 1990s, but Mrs. Farra still manages the shop, now located at Yankee Ridge Shopping Center.
Mr. Farra had been active in the Ridgefield Rotary Club and had served as its president. He was also a member of the Retired Eastern Pilots Association.
For relaxation, he enjoyed golf and building wooden model airplanes. He was also an artist who painted in oils and did landscapes, still lifes, and portraits.
Besides his wife of 31 years, Mr. Farra is survived by a daughter, Vikki Farra of Danbury, and a sister, Thelma Jane Mauler of Denver, Colo.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, Jan. 26, at 12:30 p.m. in the Kane Funeral Home. Friends will be received Saturday after noon.
There will be no calling hours.
