Dr. Stephen Galluzzo, 50, food scientist
Stephen J. Galluzzo of Old Branchville Road, a food scientist, died Thursday, May 3, in Norwalk Hospital. He was 50 years old and the husband of Lois Pollard Galluzzo.
A native of Springfield, Mass., Dr. Galluzzo was born on Nov. 19, 1950, a son of Gloria Galluzzo Maguire of St. Louis, Mo., and the late Neil Galluzzo. He grew up in France where his family lived until he was 16 and in England where he attended boarding schools in England.
After his family moved to St. Louis, Mo., he entered the University of Missouri, where he received bachelors and masters degrees in food science. He earned a doctorate in food science at Cornell University in 1977 and, 10 years ago, received a masters degree in business administration from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.
Dr. Galluzzo worked for 18 years for Eagle Snacks Inc. in St. Louis, rising to the position of vice president of quality assurance and technical services. The family moved to Ridgefield in 1996 when Dr. Galluzzo accepted the position of director of sugar technology at Pepsi-Cola International.
He was a member of the Institute of Food Technologists and was certified by the American Society of Quality as a certified quality engineer.
Besides his wife and his mother, Dr. Galluzzo is survived by a son, Matthew Galluzzo of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters, Lisa Galluzzo and Katherine Galluzzo, both of Ridgefield; a stepfather, James Maguire of St. Louis; a mother-in-law, Eloise Rieger of Newton, Iowa; two brothers, N. Geoffrey Galluzzo of London, England, and Michael Galluzzo of St. Louis; two sisters, Maria Viehman and Cecile Galluzzo, both of St. Louis. A brother, Mark Galluzzo, died before him.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday, May 7, in St. Louis. Burial was in Wheeling Cemetery, Wheeling, Mo.

The Bopp Chapel in St. Louis was in charge of arrangements.
