Richard D. Harris, 63, consultant, veteran

Richard D. Harris of 194 High Ridge Avenue, a human resources consultant, died on Friday afternoon, Jan. 4, at Danbury Hospital. He was 63 years old and the husband of Patricia Barnes Harris.
Mr. Harris was born in Rochester, N.Y., on Dec. 1, 1938, a son of the late Frank and Bertha Blickwede Harris. He attended Rochester schools and St. John Fisher College.
He was a graduate of the Naval Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, R.I., and served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis, achieving the rank of lieutenant.
Mr. Harris was a human resources consultant and maintained a consulting firm, R.D. Harris & Associates of New Canaan. He specialized in finding and recruiting corporate executives.
A resident of Ridgefield for the past 15 years, Mr. Harris had previously lived in Palos Verde, Calif., Lake Katonah, N.Y., and New Canaan.
For relaxation, Mrs. Harris said, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially for pheasant, and loved to read, particularly history.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church here.
Besides his wife of 18 years, Mr. Harris is survived by a son: Jonathan Harris of Sonoma, Calif.; and two brothers: Robert Harris of Winfield, Ill., and James Harris of Webster, N.Y.
A son, David C. Harris, died just one year and a day before him, on Jan. 3, 2001.
The Rev. Robert P. Morrissey, pastor, will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial Monday morning, Jan. 14, at 10:30 in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
