Louis Hoelscher, 75, painting contractor
Louis F. Hoelscher of 32 Ball Pond Road East, New Fairfield, a former longtime Ridgefielder, died Sunday afternoon, June 10, at Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, N.Y. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Hoelscher was born in Union, Mo., on Aug. 1, 1925, a son of Ferdinand H. and Mary Ellen Mallioux Hoelscher. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed aboard the USS Wichita.
Mr. Hoelscher, a painting and wallpaper contractor in Fairfield County for many years, retired 11 years ago. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades Local #113 in Stamford.
A Ridgefield resident from 1948 to 1977, Mr. Hoelscher lived in Norwalk, Clearwater, Fla., and Ashford before moving to New Fairfield. He was a former member of St. Marys Church.
Mr. Hoelscher was predeceased by his former wives: Juliana P. Mahoney Hoelscher and Dorothy Young Hoelscher; his son, Michael Hoelscher, and his sister, Anna Marie Gumpert.
Survivors include two sons: Louis J. and Paul E., both of Ridgefield; five daughters: Patricia A. Schalkham Botticelli of New Fairfield, with whom he made his home; Margaret M. DeForest of Ridgefield; Sheila M. Hoelscher of Somerville, Mass.; Rosemary Hoelscher of New Milford; and Ann-Marie B. Hoelscher of Danbury; two brothers: Herbert Hoelscher and Duvall Hoelscher, both of Missouri; three sisters: Rosemary Hooker and Helen Buhr, both of Missouri, and Marietta Hughes of Washington; three grandsons: Bradford Schalkham, Gregory Schalkham and Matthew Schalkham. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Marys Cemetery.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home, 41 Catoonah Street.
