Thomas Jones, built many houses here

Thomas P. Jones III of 63 Lincoln Lane, a longtime Ridgefield builder, died early Wednesday morning, March 6, on Martha’s Vineyard. He was 55 years old and the husband of Deborah Chesley Jones.
A native of Stamford, Mr. Jones was born on Nov. 6, 1946, a son of Thomas P. Jr. and Emily Jones. He grew up in Stamford and graduated from Stamford schools.
Mr. Jones had been a building contractor for more than 30 years, specializing in houses. He had built more than 60 houses in Ridgefield.
The Jones family moved to Ridgefield in 1969 and have lived in three houses that he had built. They’ve lived on Lincoln Lane for seven and a half years.
Mr. Jones had been active in Little League and Pop Warner programs here. He was the recipient of the Scalzo Award in 1990s, commending him for the time and effort he put into youth sports in the community.
Several years ago, he got his private pilot’s license and flew frequently from Danbury Airport.
He was an avid salt water fisherman, and had his own boat on the Vineyard.
“He was a great husband and a great father,” said Deborah Jones, his wife of 35 years.
Besides his wife and his mother, he is survived by two sons: Thomas P. Jones IV and his wife, Kathleen, of Macon, Ga., and Christopher Paul Jones of Boston, Mass.; a granddaughter, Emily Ann Jones of Macon; a sister: Donna Sandberg of Norwalk; and two nieces: Lisa and Christina Sandberg.
Services will take place Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Kane Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2.
